Sunshine Revival 2025: Challenge 4

Journaling: What is making you smile these days? Create a top 10 list of anything you want to talk about.

What doesn't make me smile these days?

1. My cats! The big one and little one are both such assholes to each other, but I love their little quirks.

The big one is a shy cuddler. She's a lover and makes biscuits and purrs so often! She's not a big fan of new people, but she's gotten better over the years. We've had people come over a bit more consistently, and she's gotten quite use to them by now. She also loves laying on my chest, and nearly suffocating me with how close she wants to get her ass to my face. When she was closer to 16 pounds, she nearly did a few times. She's now a much better weight, so she's not going to accidentally kill me in my sleep.

The little one is super confident, but she isn't much of a people-cat. She likes checking out newcomers and is generally pretty friendly, but she doesn't default to asking for pets. She will steal food if left unattended. Since we've gotten her, she has stolen: a whole poptart, a large slice of pizza, cookies with chocolate in them (I called pet poison control, but she didn't even get the runs from it), and just earlier today, some of my alfredo noodles. Little bastard.

2. Letting people know about my friend's shiny living dex in Scar/Vi. She has almost every shiny that hasn't been shiny locked. Her luck is also hilarious. Within an hour of starting a new game, she's already managed to catch a shiny Lechonk. Another wild understanding of how crazy her luck is: in the 3Ds port of Crystal, she got shiny Celebi within the gen 2 odds (1 in 8000-something), and then just fifty restarts later, she gets a shiny Suicune.

3. My sewing machine. I haven't touched it in some months, but it's one of my favorite $250 I dropped. I've made so many pieces of clothing I'm just very happy with. Since getting it, I've learned what types of fabrics I like, and it's always some natural fibers. Linen or cotton-linen blends are some of my favorite.

4. Every time a new episode of Space Boy drops. Please read it, it's so good!

5. When my favorite rare pairs get a new fic. Current obsessions are Gale/Karlach and Wyll/Halsin, both from BG3. Also any rare pair featuring Sucrose has my number.

6. Finding new TTRPGs on itch.io. I've made a post about some of my favorites, but I found one I think is going to help me with my original WIP writer's block. It's called Wanderer. The rules are a bit hard to parse out, but I think it's because the game's maker has English as a second language, and writing in a second language is incredibly hard.

7. Finding similar tastes with my dad and brother, especially when it comes to something to watch. I don't watch a lot of TV or movies, and my tastes never quite align with either of them, but when it does, it's quite a hoot. In the last few years, my dad has gotten into anime, so it's been funny hearing him ask me about shows that are popping up in his queue that I already had either known of or read the manga. Recent shoutouts are Apothecary Diaries and Dan da Dan. I've also recently gotten him into Andor, which I'm very happy about. The entire prison arc was so fucking haunting.

8. My Ita bag. I haven't done much in regards to decorating it, but I've gotten so many compliments on some of the things I've shown off. One of these days, I do want to make a proper insert and go off on decorating the shit out of it.

9. The smell of coffee. I will joke about it being my life blood, but if I can never have a good cup of joe again, at least I can always have the smell.

10. Sharing things with my friends! Be it pictures of my cats, cool things I think is up their alley, or something cursed. It's so much fun to read someone for filth with the last two and equally so to be on the receiving end of it. My friend just shared a youtube short about the term tsundoku, and I screamed.

11. Secret 11th thing: Artbooks! Especially artbooks by indie artists! It can be themed, it can be about OCs, it can be about a series I know nothing about. I love artbooks of all sorts.

Sunshine Revival 2025: Challenge 3

Playing catch-up with these since I genuinely love this.

Challenge 3: What are your favorite summer-associated foods?

During the summer, I tend to not want to cook because it's just so damn hot out, so my meals tend to be more "snacks," typically leaning to a sandwich plus a side dishes of fruits and veggies. Recently, I've added cottage cheese since it's popping up on my social feeds a lot, and I love this shit. My favorites are the summer fruits like peaches and cherries since they tend to be so cheap in comparison to other times of the year. I love summer fruit a lot!

If my roommates and I are feeling just a bit extra, we'll make this particular strawberry soup recipe.I vary it with frozen strawberries, but the general idea remains. I recommend adding something extra to give it more body; we typically go to add chocolate chips for a little body, but I can see bananas also working really well!

I've also taken to making more milk tea in the last month to get something cool and sweet. I call mine a "lazy person's" milk tea, since I don't want to screw around with scalding milk. How I generally go about it is:
  1. boil 1 cup of water
  2. let two to three tea bags seep in it for 7 to 10 minutes (I go for a bulk cheap black tea).
  3. Once it's been seeped to your desired strength, add a sweetener of choice (I go for brown sugar, but other sweeteners work fine) to desired sweetness levels. I tend to lean to no more than a tablespoon, but I like mine a bit sweeter.
  4. Add 1 to 1.5 cups of milk (or milk substitute). This can be separated into two servings.

Other things you can add or mess around with:
  • Flavorings!
  • Tea of choice: the original recipe I modified this from uses black tea, but honestly, you can use any type of tea. I've messed with green teas and chamomile.
  • 1 tablespoon of evaporated milk. This was originally apart the recipe I modified my version from. I forgo it because I didn't find it necessary for my purposes.
  • Scalding your milk/milk substitute. If you want a hot milk tea, be sure to scald you milk. I can see steaming working as well if you have a fancy espresso machine. I don't since I like mine cold like boba drinks.

(no subject)

The last week has been pretty quiet, which I'm fairly happy about. I had a fun little family get-together, and spent some time with my youngest cousins. Both of them are fairly young, barely tweens, and are feral little turds (affectionate). The question of what they consider old came up, and one of them said 32 (their mother's age). I'm not that far off from that, and I couldn't help but laugh. I know I thought the same when I was their age, and on the other side of the big three-oh, I see them as nothing short of babies.

A particular exchange that will probably live in my head rent free )

The also spent the better part of ten minutes joyfully destroying a balloon display (with full permission from the other adults). I hope these feral little goobers stay as audacious as they are now.

When it comes to crafting, I recently had a kick in the ass to pick up crocheting again (I am not dodging the old person accusations lmao). There's been the flower pot coaster thing going around my office, and I thought that would make a nice house warming gift for a friend of mine. And probably Christmas gifts to those who would like them.

I've also heard that the James Gunn Superman movie is really good, so I'm hoping to drag my dad to that since Superman was such a big part of my childhood (the DCEU, Smallville, and even the 70s movies). I hated Snyder interpretation of him so much get that Christian messiah bullshit out of my Superman, so it's really nice to see Sups being happy and kind and colorful again. It also seems like it's taking some storytelling pointers from Superman Returns by forgoing the whole origin story, which I think is pretty neat.

Reading-wise, I finally finished The Enchantress of Florence, and...it was a weird book, that's for sure. I really enjoyed it, and how fucking twisty it was. I called one of the twists, but Rushdie is good at building off of what he was suggesting, holy shit. It's really feels like a piece that needs some chewing on to really appreciate. I feel like the ogre from the Ogre reading Ulysses meme: I get the surface-level stuff, but the deeper bits are a bit beyond me without some careful chewing on lol

Sunshine Revival 2025: Challenge 2

Challenge #2: Tunnel of Love
Journaling: The romance of summer! What do you love? Write about anything you feel sentimental about or that gets your heart pumping.

I'm
very sentimental about certain smells related to my childhood: namely lilac and fresh baked cinnamon rolls.
